This beautiful 17th-century free house, with a new owner, has been refurbished yet retains much of its original character with huge old fireplaces, bread ovens and log burners. The inn’s central location places it on many inland tourist routes, whilst the Tarka Trail and Rosemoor Gardens are both nearby. Expect a selection of cask ales on tap, accompanied by freshly cooked, locally sourced dishes that are served at lunchtime and in the evening. A typical meal might start with River Exe mussels in cider, followed by home-made steamed suet pudding; or 8oz Exmoor rump steak and triple cooked chips.
