This friendly pub, dating back to the 16th century with later additions, is set in the quiet village of Bishopsteignton, at the foot of Haldon Moor and overlooking the lovely Teign Estuary. Full of history, it has plenty of original features, including the gallery landing, beams, and fireplaces. Menus are strong on local produce and pub classics, and you should definitely book for Sunday lunch. At lunchtime choose from sharing platters, ciabattas, sandwiches and the classic ham, egg and chips. In the evening you might start with prawn and crayfish cocktail, followed by vegetable hotpot; or duck breast, dauphinoise potatoes, orange and dark cherry sauce.
