Right on the beach, the whitewashed Cary Arms is a real find in Babbacombe Bay. This ‘boutique inn’ is so much more than just a pub; unwind in the beamed bar with its original stone walls, perhaps with a pint of Otter Ale in hand, contemplating the stunning views across the bay; stay in one of the luxury sea-facing bedrooms; and sample the delicious food from the daily-changing menu. The watchwords in the kitchen are freshness and seasonality, underpinned by a respect for local ingredients. Pan-fried Brixham scallops, pea purée and crispy Parma ham might be followed by Dunterton Farm steak, Otter Ale and mushroom pie, dauphinoise potatoes and red wine jus; and trio of Gribbles sausages with mash and red onion jus. If it’s a glorious summer’s day, eat in the terraced gardens leading to the water’s edge.
