The Peak Hotel is where to aim for after climbing Lose Hill, or walking along the Hope Valley. Standing below Peveril Castle, this 17th-century stone building is a real magnet, seducing visitors with its leather armchairs, open log fires and locally brewed cask beers, real ciders, wines by the glass and a large selection of craft gins; alternative places to recover are the restaurant/coffee shop and raised sun terrace. Regional ingredients are used to good effect in dishes such as drunken duck pâté with real ale chutney; steak and ale casserole with dumplings; and a hearty sandwich filled with Derbyshire beef and horseradish.
