Well placed for exploring the Peak District National Park and visiting Chatsworth, this delightful stone-built coaching inn is in the shadow of the village church, the 'Cathedral of the Peak'. The simple menu focuses on traditional pub food – lunchtime sandwiches; starters such as prawn cocktail; and vegetarian bean chilli with guacamole. Mains include grilled salmon steak with dill butter, new potatoes and mixed salad; sweet honey- and mustard-glazed ham with chips and peas; beer-battered cod fillet; and vegetarian burger with cheddar cheese, chips and salad. Home-made apple and fruit crumble comes with custard, cream or ice cream.
