The String of Horses Inn

At a glance

Open all year
Free Wi-Fi

Close to Hadrian’s Wall in the peaceful village of Faugh, this traditional 17th-century Lakeland inn may be tucked away but it’s just 10 minutes from Carlisle. There are oak beams, wood panelling, old settles and log fires in the restaurant, where imaginative pub food is on offer, and in the bar, where you’ll find real ales from the Allendale and Hesket breweries. Creamy tomato and basil soup; spicy prawn casserole; Moroccan lamb tagine; chilli lasagne; and half shoulder of lamb with mint gravy admirably represent what’s on a typical menu.
