It’s hard to believe that this old whitewashed pub was, at one time, closed for three years. There are real fires in the restaurant, where a three-course lunch or evening meal might be wood pigeon breast with celeriac remoulade; braised belly of pork with black pudding potato cake; and sticky toffee pudding. Vegetarians will find dishes such as Cumberland farmhouse cheese and onion soufflé; and wild mushroom and courgette bouché. Three regularly-changing real ales and eight wines by the glass are served in the open-plan bar. Cyclists will appreciate the lock-up facility for their bikes.
