Some years ago, not wanting The Derby Arms to close, the village bought it, later selling the lease to the Ainscough pub and restaurant group. Now extensively restored, part is now a community-run shop. The bar maintains a good roster of local real ales and a wide choice of wines by the glass. Start with crispy whitebait, then steak and ale pie, or Derby Arms burger and chips; battered fillet of haddock; or pan-fried gnocchi with broccoli, blue cheese and candied walnuts, ending with home-made toffee apple crumble. Live music sessions are held at least once a month.
