Popular with coast-to-coast walkers and cyclists of various nationalities, the bar is usually populated by a cosmopolitan crowd mixing merrily with locals. In fact, this was once a village-centre farmhouse which also dispensed beer to the local farmers and travellers. Today, an excellent array of Cumbrian ales is served, alongside plates of good home-made food based on local produce. All appetites are catered for, starting with lunchtime snacks and finishing with robust dinner dishes such as pork belly and black pudding; or duck breast with a port and marmalade reduction.
