Local food and ales, an ideal stop after a Lakeland walk

At a glance

Dog friendly

An open-fired, traditional Lakeland inn, owned by Jennings Brewery, so expect their regular range on tap, and a monthly guest. For the seasonal menus, the kitchen produces home-cooked, locally sourced food, including starters of whitebait with home-made tartare sauce; and 'gooey' baked camembert with ciabatta dipping sticks and chilli, red onion and tomato relish. Follow with a favourite like the chef’s beef Madras, or a special (of which there are many), such as prime Cumbrian rump steak; venison bourguignon; and lamb Henry on crushed minted potatoes.
