Prettily perched on the village green, this inn’s smart restaurant and terrace are lovely places to eat, as is the homely bar where you can sup a pint of Black Sheep or Cocker Hoop. With superb local produce on the doorstep, the seasonally changing menus offer the likes of baked goats’ cheese and spinach tart; or chicken liver and almond pâté with spiced Indian tomato chutney, then loin of venison, roasted salsify, spinach and chocolate and sweet chilli jus; or home-made steak and ale shortcrust pastry pie.
