Savvy diners may get 'Bitter and Twisted' as it’s one of the real ales on hand to satisfy devotees seeking out the culinary magic conjured up by talented chef-proprietors Jonathan Hall and Marcus Bennett. The ancient pub retains considerable character enhanced by carefully chosen period furnishings. Thoroughly modern cuisine sets this ambience off to a tee. At dinner expect starters like white crab meat with mango ketchup, avocado, brown crab mousse, prawn beignets and prawn crisps, and mains such as rack of venison with roast apple purée, shallot and venison croquettes, roasted shallots, shallot tart fine and Madeira jus; or roasted stone bass with fish burger, pickled cucumber, mussel and saffron chowder, cauliflower purée and a brown shrimp butter. There's a good vegetarian choice too.
