Historic tucked-away town pub

This popular terraced side-street local is the oldest pub in Penzance, dating from around 1233, and was the first in the country to be given the Turks Head name. Sadly, a Spanish raiding party destroyed much of the original building in the 16th century, but an old smugglers' tunnel leading directly to the harbour still exists. Wash down hearty pub food – steaks, burgers, fish pie – or perhaps seafood broth, green Thai monkfish curry or braised lamb shank, with a cracking pint of Sharp’s Doom Bar, best enjoyed in the sunny flower-filled garden. Don’t miss the annual beer festival.
