This traditional country pub set deep in the Roseland countryside has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Roaring winter fires, beamed ceilings and mulled wine contrast with summer days relaxing on the terrace with a jug of Pimm’s, a pint of Betty Stogs or Cornish Orchards cider. Whatever the time of year, the chef responds with seasonal dishes using the best local produce, including roasted chicken breast with five bean and chorizo cassoulet; tiger prawns piri piri and citrus risotto; or apple, leek and cheddar cake. Look out for the signature dish of Ruan duck three ways – confit leg, pan-fried breast and drakes pudding.
