Handy for the castle-studded, wooded sandstone ridge that splits Cheshire in two, this gabled roadside restaurant, bar and grill offers diners and drinkers the best of the county’s produce. Weetwood Brewery ales populate the bar, whilst the frequently-changing menu offers both pub grub and modern classics. Rosemary- and garlic-braised lamb shank may hit the spot, whilst smoked haddock and salmon fishcakes are among the extensive fish selection; there's also a good range of steaks. There are intriguing local photos in the airy country-house style interior, the tree-shaded beer garden is a veritable sun trap, and there’s a specially-designed play area for the kids.
