Refurbished to a high standard, this lovely 16th-century former coaching inn has a traditional, oak-beamed bar where hand-pulled ales complement freshly prepared dishes, based on ingredients from local family businesses; the chef patron makes his own bread from local Walk Mill flour. Dishes range from starters and light bites like baked honey figs; and shredded ham hock, to sandwiches, salads and pub classics – maybe breaded scampi; lamb hotpot; or cheese and onion pie. There are steaks from the grill and seafood treats like baked cod mornay or pan-fried stone bass.
