Refurbished to a high standard, this lovely 16th-century former coaching inn has a traditional, oak-beamed bar where hand-pulled ales complement freshly prepared dishes, based on ingredients from local family businesses; the chef patron makes his own bread from local Walk Mill flour. Dishes range from starters and light bites like creamy garlic and Stilton mushrooms; and tandoori chicken skewers on naan bread with salad, to sandwiches, salads and pub classics – maybe breaded scampi; minted lamb shank; or cottage pie. There are steaks and burgers from the grill and seafood treats like fish pie or seafood and pesto risotto.
