Excellent local food in the Welsh hills

At a glance

AA Pick of the Pubs
Bar menu

Found down winding narrow lanes through stunning countryside, this traditional local is tucked away in Llanfihangel’s gorgeous open square alongside listed whitewashed cottages and an imposing church. It has become an oasis for tip-top Welsh beer and quality food. Expect to find a buzzy community vibe and the place packed with local drinkers supping pints of Evan Evans or potent Gwynt y Ddraig cider, farmers from the hills and local foodies in the know. There’s distinct Welsh flavour to the short monthly menus (written in Welsh and English, naturally), which champion produce from local farms and artisan producers. Typically, tuck into local honey and duck samosas with plum sauce; Ystwyth Valley lamb cutlets with dauphinoise potatoes, and warm gooseberry and almond cake with stem ginger ice cream. Don’t miss the Sunday roasts.
