A mile away from this white-painted hotel lies the ruined abbey at Strata Florida, a most un-Welsh-sounding place-name that's actually a corruption of Ystrad Fflur, meaning 'valley of flowers'. Walkers, cyclists, fishermen and nature lovers attracted by the abbey and the other scenic delights of west Wales visit here and enjoy its Welsh-farmhouse-like interior, where Llandeilo brewery Evan Evans satisfies no doubt the many real-ale drinkers among them. Home-made food depends to a great extent on local produce, typical examples being Welsh beef lasagne; breaded wholetail scampi; and chickpea curry and rice. Board specials complement the printed menu.
