Set in the rolling green Cothi Valley, the Dolaucothi Arms is a Grade II listed building owned by the National Trust. At the helm are David Joy and Esther Hubert who are passionate about Welsh food and drink. Choose an armchair in the cosy lounge bar, or sit at a large table in the main bar where Welsh real ales and Hallets and Dunkerton ciders are on tap. Head for the separate dining room with wood-burning stove and eclectic mix of mismatched furniture to enjoy Welsh rarebit with Dave’s ‘famous’ piccalilli; local award-winning pork sausages, mash, peas and onion gravy; vension chops, roasted roots, mashed potatoes and kale; a ribeye or sirloin 21 day aged Welsh steak. Banana and date pudding with sticky toffee sauce makes a great finish. A beer and cider festival is held over the Summer Bank Holiday weekend in August.
