A drive through the pretty Cothi Valley brings you to this attractive, 16th-century village pub run by George and Louise Rashbrook. Louise does all the cooking and George wisely gives her generous credit for doing so. You can eat from an extensive menu in the flagstoned bar, while the evening menu in the more modern, candlelit dining room offers classic starters like prawn cocktail or fresh garlic mushrooms, followed by vegetable and Stilton crumble; lamb shank with red wine and rosemary gravy; chicken curry; or steak and Guinness pie. If there's room, go for banoffee pie, chocolate and Baileys cheesecake, or sherry trifle. The lovely beer garden overlooks a Roman bridge.
