Salvaged old agricultural tools and other farming memorabilia embellish the bar of this 17th-century country inn. Among its four real ales is Grainstore Brewery’s Red Kite, Aspall cider and 14 wines are by the glass, selected from an extensive cellar. The Orangery, The Pantry and the garden are three of the five dining areas, where options include Portobello mushroom bruschetta with poached hen’s egg; slow-braised lamb shank, creamed potatoes and rich mint jus; and roasted vegetable Wellington, parsnip purée and fondant potato.
