Paul and Karen Beer have woven some magic at The Rose, a traditional village pub close to Cambridge and Duxford Imperial War Museum. Expect a stylish interior, replete with low beams and inglenook fireplaces, and traditional unfussy menus majoring on local produce, fresh Lowestoft fish, and quality Scottish steaks. As well as a good selection of appetisers, typical main dishes include slow-roasted Suffolk pork belly, marinated in cider and sage and served with mashed potatoes, apple purée and seasonal vegetables; and home-made beef lasagne with garlic bread and mixed salad. For the sweet of tooth, bread and butter pudding with custard is a favourite.
