Confident cooking in a pretty village close to the River Ouse

A handsome 17th-century pub on the main street of the charming village of Hemingford Grey, The Cock stands among thatched, timbered and brick cottages. Although it’s only a mile from the busy A14, it feels like a world away. Other than the peaceful location, the detour is well worth taking as the food on offer is excellent – the set lunch menu is a steal. Cooking is modern British, with the occasional foray further afield.
