An ale drinker’s paradise if ever there was one, parts of which date back 500 years. With three beer festivals a year (Easter, Spring Bank Holiday and Summer Bank Holiday) and barely a pause between them, this pub can almost claim to run a single year-long celebration, with over 1,000 real ales consumed annually. Real cider and Belgian bottled beers augment the already mammoth range. A large well-kept garden at the rear hosts summer barbecues; otherwise the menu of home-cooked pub favourites ranges from a salad bar with quiches, sandwiches and ploughman’s through to curries, chilli, pasta dishes, pies and steaks (lunchtime only).
