This friendly 17th-century hilltop country pub and restaurant has wonderful views of Brill Windmill and neighbouring counties. Well worth trying is the pub’s own, appropriately named, ‘A Very Pleasant Pheasant Ale’. Enticing starter choices might be pan-fried mixed mushrooms with garlic and parsley; or antipasti to share. Then consider steak and pheasant ale pie, bangers and mash, venison loin with mash and black pudding, or a Brill beef burger with Oxford Blue cheese. Head for the garden when the weather’s good in the summer and book for a Thursday curry evening. There are also four stylish en suite bedrooms.
