Only a short hop from the rush and noise of the M1, the family-run Carrington in the pretty village of Moulsoe combines tradition with modern hospitality. Real ales and a good wine list are a given, but the pub is most famous for its fresh meat counter where customers can talk through their selection with the chef; locally-raised Bedfordshire beef is a highlight. The choice starts with sandwiches and pub favourites, but other options are a modern take on a prawn cocktail, then pink Woburn venison loin with smoked venison boudin, fondant potato with red wine and port jus. The large garden hosts a beer and cider festival in mid June.
