Situated in the Vale of Aylesbury and close to the rippling Chiltern Hills, the village of Long Crendon was a centre for lace-making in medieval times. Certain buildings retain a real sense of history, including the old courthouse, picturesque rows of cottages and the gabled Angel Inn. This old coaching stop still displays much of its original character with ancient fireplaces and wattle-and-daub walls, alongside modern additions which include an airy conservatory. Refreshments centre on Vale Brewery’s Wychert and the village’s own XT Brewing Company’s ales; the good wine list offers a dozen served by the glass. The AA-Rosette food comprises hand-made dishes cooked to order based on daily deliveries of fresh produce. Typical of these are crispy Spanish spiced squid; lemon, basil and ricotta gnocchi with chargrilled mediterranean vegetables; and a glazed passionfruit tart.
