The Green Man is a homely half-timbered cottage pub situated close to the village cricket pitch. Older parts of the building predate its first licence granted in 1602; thick beams were recycled from Tudor warships and offer a memorable interior in this appealing rustic retreat. Brakspear Brewery bitter and seasonal ales continue to keep drinkers happy. Diners can anticipate a seasonally adjusted, solidly British menu with mains like grilled salmon with wild rice risotto; venison Wellington, black cabbage with port and blackcurrant gravy; or potato rösti with broccoli, roasted salsify and crisp duck egg. Sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and lighter meals are also available. There's a tree-shaded beer garden with serene country views.
