Good ciders and beers at a very old inn

At a glance

Bar menu
Beer festival
Open all year

This 14th-century free house is renowned for its ciders and an ever-changing range of real ales selected from small independent breweries. The building was given to the community in 1608 and profits from the rent continue to help village charities. Iain and Scott Ganson have built a reputation for good food and everything possible is made on the premises, including all charcuterie and preparation of game. Start with steamed mussels in cider; or lentil soup then continue with bream and split-pea dhal; or the ever-popular Bell bambi burger. Leave room for beer ice cream.
