This 14th-century free house is renowned for its ciders and an ever-changing range of real ales selected from small independent breweries. The building was given to the community in 1608 and profits from the rent continue to help village charities. Iain and Scott Ganson have built a reputation for good food and everything possible is made on the premises, including all charcuterie and preparation of game. Start with asparagus risotto with lemon and mint; or sage and butternut squash soup then continue with house-cut pork chop, baby gem, smashed beans, caper and anchovy dressing; or the ever-popular Bell bambi burger. Leave room for treacle tart and crème fraîche ice cream.
