A grassy beer-garden stretches from the secluded patio of this convivial village pub to the duck pond on the green. It's served the pretty village for two centuries; the unique name remembers the service given by local soldiers who fought in Belgium during the Great War. In season a huge twisted wisteria blankets the front of the building; inside, there’s an unfussy, restful mix of pastels to the decor. Popular as a destination dining pub, it's also the hub of the community, where drinkers enjoy beers from Brakspear and look forward to the regular live music and entertainment nights.
