Built in the 1900s, this fine-looking pub is a stone’s throw from Bedford Park, just a little way out of town. The smartly decorated exterior promises a similarly well cared for interior, and you won’t be disappointed – fireplaces, flagstone floors and beamed ceilings combine to create a traditional welcoming atmosphere. Beyond the wrap-around bar are a spacious restaurant, relaxing conservatory and airy garden room; this leads to an outdoor area where heaters permit comfortable drinking and dining if there’s a chill in the air. Eagle IPA and Bombardier from the town’s Wells and Young’s brewery are served in the bar, along with over 30 wines sold by the glass. Most of the pub’s suppliers are proudly detailed on the menu, while the kitchen team produces the pub’s own bread, pasta, ice creams and chutneys. In addition, snacks and sandwiches with home-cut chips are served on Saturday from 3pm to 6pm.
