This imposing pub sits behind an outdoor terrace overlooking the River Great Ouse on the edge of Bedford's beautifully landscaped Embankment gardens. Dating from 1891, the building has been renovated and its Victorian features brought back to life. Among its delights are the open fire, antique mirrors, vintage tables, sofas in racing green and silk lampshades. Food choices range from deli boards to full meals such as free-range pork terrine, piccalilli and sourdough, followed by pan-fried sea bream fillets, saffron and spring onion mash, white wine butter sauce.
