For anyone with kids, a Vauxhall Zafira is a god-send. Seven seats for your kids, your friends kids and their friends kids, enough folding seats for regular trips to the skip as you throw out the latest round of toys/cots/clothes/tvs/failing flat pack furniture/gardening.
There’s plenty of leg room, decent fuel efficiency and a sound system that’s able to play Britney Spears’ tinny nonsense, rocking Queen and Dad’s Radiohead with equal musicality (as The Voice might call it).
The Zafira is full of clever thinking, relative comfort, flexibility and safety. Most models are equipped with trays and compartments aplenty – as many as 30 storage facilities for toys, books and dolls, large or small.
The best part of the Vauxhall Zafira, however, has to be the seating. Their patented Flex7® system is ultra convenient. Two front seats, three middle seats and two back seats can be moved to transport bodies or bulky cargo with consummate ease. Oh, and the seats all have a decent range so leg room shouldn’t be a problem.
New models house a truck load of a creature comforts including automatic and adjustable Electronic Climate Control; also check for front and rear parking sensors, not standard but included on some models,
Vauxhall’s Automatic Lighting Control is part of Vauxhall’s optional ‘sight and light’ pack. ALC helps drivers in changing light conditions, responding to different light climates in the likes of tunnels and underpasses.
If you’re going on a family holiday and are looking for navigation or entertainment, Vauxhall offer optional systems including integrated traffic information or dynamic navigation guidance, MP3/iPod access, as well as the regular CD etc. You can also add Bluetooth and operate your phone from steering wheel, faceplate or via voice control. You’ll find that on Excite models. Again, ask your dealer if your used Vauxhall contains any of those upgrades.
So what about driving and performance? Many Zafira models have Vauxhall’s electronic stability program ‘ESP’ – (why does EVERYTHING have to be an acronym?). ESP controls the breaks on up to three wheels counteracting understeer and maintaining control.
As for safety, Zafiras have been computer designed and physically tested to ensure the least possible deformation and largest possible protection space in the event of serious impact from front, rear or sides.
There’s anti-lock braking with cornering brake control (CBC), pedal-release system (PRS), front and thorax airbags for driver and co-driver and automatic hazard-brake flashers.
Zafiras are available with petrol or diesel engines, most models feature Vauxhall’s ECOTEC® four-valve technology, which promotes More power, lower fuel consumption and improved CO2 emissions.
If you’re looking for a way to transport the kids from football to ballet to swimming to parties and back again, you could to a lot worse than get a Zafira. They’re pretty cost-effective, versatile and safe.
