While EuroNCAP might have revised its testing criteria, Volkswagen’s Golf has still achieved an impressive score for its safety.
The Volkswagen Golf not only achieved a five-star rating but also the highest score of any car yet tested under the new criteria.
Previously, EuroNCAP had only tested the frontal crash, side crash and pedestrian protection.
However, electronic safety and accident prevention assistant systems are now also taken into account, as is rear crash protection capability.
It is hoped that the overall effect of the changes will be that consumers find it easier to compare the safety features of new and used cars.
The Volkswagen Golf’s excellent grading has in part been attributed to the addition of whiplash-optimised head restraints in its latest model.
What’s more, it is also helped by the fact that its Electronic Stability Programme feature is already fitted as standard.
This year’s WhatCar? Awards saw the Volkswagen Golf scoop the prize for best small family car.
