Golf GT Sport unveiled

Volkswagen’s Golf Sport and GT trims are to be replaced with a single model – the Golf GT Sport.

The new model has been given a look described as "purposeful" and characterised by an all-new darkened grille section that is intersected by a set of horizontal fins.

A new GT Sport badge is set into the grille and the car’s nose also features a pair of darkened headlights and fog lights mounted in the front air dams.

The "subtle, sporting" style continues on the inside, with a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel and sports seats. Climatic air conditioning and a CD stereo system enhance comfort while six airbags and ABS brakes improve safety.

Powering the new car is a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, utilising both a supercharger and turbocharger to generate power but remain economical, or a two-litre diesel unit with six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes.

Deliveries of the Golf GT Sport will begin later in the summer when the model will be available in both three- and five-door body styles.
