Mazda celebrates ‘best roadster’ award

Mazda has celebrated the fact that its MX-5 model has been named best roadster for the second year in a row at the Auto Express used-car awards for 2007.

According to the automaker, the accolade gives a "further boost" to its position as Britain’s favourite sports car brand.

Outlining the thinking behind the award, Auto Express said that the Mazda MX-5 was very difficult to beat as it is "too good at too many things".

The magazine described the rear-wheel drive handling, gear change action and responsive engine as "the stars" of the vehicle’s performance, but pointed out that it is also practical with low running costs and good build quality.

James Hopkins, fleet and remarketing director for Mazda UK, commented: "It’s always rewarding to have a high profile motor industry and consumer publication, such as Auto Express, confirm that our products are among the best on the market – whether new or used.

"One in every five new sports cars sold in the UK is a Mazda and demand for our Mazda MX-5 roadster and RX-8 coupe as used cars is incredibly strong. As well as being fun-to-drive, both new and used they represent a great investment as their residual values are robust and their reliability legendary."
