March “best ever month” for MX-5

Mazda UK has announced the achievement of record sales of 50,500 vehicles in the financial year ending in March, with a record month for the MX-5 providing a substantial boost.

A total of 1,973 versions of the MX-5, including soft-top and roadster coupe models, were sold in March, making it the best ever month for the line.

Sales of the Mazda6 were also described as "buoyant", with 2,944 units shifted, a one per cent increase compared to March 2006.

Across Europe over the 2006-07 financial year, Mazda achieved total sales of 301,200, the highest for 15 years. The UK was credited for playing a "major role" in this success.

Looking forward, Mazda UK managing director Rob Lindley said it will be "quite an intense time" over the next few months as the all-new Mazda2 and CX-7 arrive, but expressed confidence at the company’s prospects.

"Our strong dealer network combined with the latest sports models – the Mazda3 MPS hot hatch along with the more powerful two-litre 143ps Mazda3 diesel and a new special edition for MX-5 in May – will mean sales momentum continues from spring into summer," Mr Lindley said.
