Surprise as Kia beats BMW to Car of the Year award

A TV presenter has expressed surprise that the Kia pro_cee’d has beaten the BMW M to scoop TV show Auto Mundial’s 2008 Car of the Year award.

The news could mean that used Kia dealers have a busy start to the New Year.

Auto Mundial’s Richard Nichols, said; "We were all convinced the BMW would be hard to beat, if not impossible, but in the end the Kia pro_cee’d was clearly the winner."

The TV programme’s jury of journalists and presenters made its choice after an eventful year of testing and reporting on a wide range of machinery from all over the world.

There were no special categories attached to the award, the Kia was up against sports cars, 4x4s city cars and people movers.

Looks, driving entertainment and technological innovations helped the Kia pick up the Auto Mundial accolade.

Paul Philpott, managing Director, Kia Motors UK Ltd., said: ‘We’ve been saying for some time that the pro_cee’d is very special – a Kia you can brag about to your mates in the pub."
