Jaguar XJ wins beauty contest

The Jaguar XJ finished ahead of cars from BMW, Audi and Mercedes in order to pick up the annual Autonis design award.

Close to 16,000 readers of Auto Motor und Sport voted in the survey, choosing the Jaguar model in the category of most beautiful luxury saloon vehicle.

The manufacturer hailed the result, adding that it was great to see the German market responding so well to the model.

According to the company’s design director Ian Callum, the XJ is a two-pronged treat for the eyes.

"The face-lifted car combines the beauty of the traditional with the confidence of the present and it clearly maintains the elegance for which Jaguar is renowned," he said.

Jaguar is a prestige car manufacturer owned by Ford.

However, the parent company has stated that it is looking to sell the firm in the future.

Head of Ford’s European operations Lewis Booth commented "we need the money and we need the focus".
