Large market presence of small diesels revealed

Drivers in the UK have been snapping up used diesel-powered superminis with increasing frequency over the course of the last few months, it has been revealed.

According to EurotaxGlass’ pre-owned car value guide, vehicles such as the Peugeot 206 and Ford Fiesta have gone up in price when equipped with low-capacity diesel engines.

However, it was not so long ago that motorists were turned off the fuel source, thinking it was dirty and considering petrol the smoother ride of the two, it added.

But the recent awareness of environmental issues and subsequent taxes has seen consumers perform something of a u-turn, according to EurotaxGlass chief car editor Jeff Paterson.

He commented that "changes to passenger vehicle tax bands have focused the minds of consumers on the need to consider CO2 emissions when buying a car".

Meanwhile, delivery company FedEx Express has announced it will be adding ten diesel-based hybrid vehicles to its European fleet.
