Ford ‘leads the way’ in 2007

Car manufacturer Ford has enjoyed buoyant sales figures in the first months of 2007, according to new figures.

Sales at the group comprised almost a fifth (18 per cent) of total sales for the year, one per cent more than for the same period a year ago.

With 2,200 S-MAX and Galaxy MPVs being sold so far in 2007, sales are 240 per cent up on the 900 registered for sale last year.

One of the most popular cars to have contributed to the rising sales figures is the Ford Transit, with Europe’s International Van of the year 2007 having enjoyed a 20 per cent rise in registrations.

Ford Mondeos are also being taken up in great numbers by consumers, with 30 per cent more of the models being sold in January and February 2007 compared to the same period in 2006.

Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said he expected thousands more people to request information about the Mondeo in the coming months.
