Ford launches used Mondeo at Manheim Auctions

The new Ford Mondeo has been launched as a used car at an event held at Manheim Auctions in Leeds.

Some 152 models were sold as lots by the firm, 33 picked up by online buyers watching through a simultaneous internet link.

Cars on display were plated 07-56 and each had driven under 10,000 miles.

John Bailey, chief executive of the car dealers, claimed that he was "very pleased" with the "impressive used car debut".

And Ford is "optimistic" about the launch, believing it has well and truly established the model on the market.

"The prices realised were extremely encouraging and bidding was fast and furious, confirming that the new Mondeo is a force to be reckoned with in the used car arena," commented Chris Shambrook, auction manager for the company.

Statistics from Experian show that people picking up used cars are deciding to buy diesel engine vehicles in greater numbers.

This may be due to the tax increases announced for gas-guzzling cars.
