Ford reports that it "extended its leadership" of the UK’s car markets in May with healthy sales numbers "creating the perfect platform" for the launch of the new Mondeo.
Total car sales for the year-to-date for the manufacturer are almost 19,400 units ahead of its closest competitor.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, almost 22,000 people bought a Ford Mondeo in the first five months of 2007.
Ford states that the new version of its popular model, which will go on sale later this month, will strengthen the Mondeo’s position as the UK’s top-selling non-premium car.
"With our new flagship vehicle ready for launch, we are confident that the second half of the year will be really exciting – for ourselves, dealers and customers who are already filling up our order book," said Roelant de Waard, chairman of Ford of Britain.
The new Ford Mondeo’s design is described as "striking", while its features are reportedly "hi-tech and affordable".
