BMW unveils new 1-Series coupe

BMW has revealed its new 1-Series coupe range, with the world’s most powerful production four-cylinder diesel engine among the highlights.

This unit will power the 123d model, which delivers 204bhp and hits a top speed of 148mph while offering a combined economy rate of 54.3mpg.

Two other engine choices will be available – the 120d’s unit will offer 177bhp and 58.9mpg while the 135i coupe will be driven by 306bhp, taking the car from 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds and to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

The new 1-Series coupe range will have a 50:50 weight distribution and a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration, offering optimum driving dynamics. The coupe model will use the same architecture as three- and five-door versions of the 1-Series, but with an increase in body size to emphasise its sporting nature and improve boot space.

Oliver Parsons, product manager for the 1-Series, said: "The new 1 Series coupe will be a great addition to the BMW range.

"The combination of its sporty yet sophisticated styling and unmatched engineering technologies ensure it holds a genuinely unique position in the marketplace."
