Aston Martin has signed a deal with Magna Steyr to produce the new Rapide model in its factory in Graz in Austria.
Originally launched as a concept car at the Detroit Motor Show in 2006, the Rapide proved so popular that it began production in 2007.
The Magna Steyr factory will now become a dedicated centre, and will integrate the company’s corporate identity including a travertine marble reception and Aston Martin work-wear for employees.
Demand for the DB9, the V8 Vantage and the recently launched DBS has left Aston Martin almost exceeding the capacity of its UK headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire – 8,000 cars.
It is anticipated that the Austrian plant, to be known as the Aston Martin Rapide Plant (AMRP), will achieve 2,000 cars by the end of 2009
