I’ve got a Toyota Avensis estate, can you please tell me my maximum towing capacity for a caravan.

You’d need to check the vehicle handbook or VIN plate as this will vary depending on the age of the vehicle and the type of transmission.

For safety it’s best to keep the loaded caravan weight below 85% of the car’s kerb weight as long as this does not exceed the maximum permissible towing mass (from the car handbook) and the combined weight of the loaded car and caravan doesn’t exceed the Gross Train Weight.

Of course the loaded mass of the caravan must be below the Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass as defined by the caravan manufacturer.
