Audi unveils R8 concept

Automobile manufacturer Audi this week showed off a diesel-based concept of its R8 road car.

Audi unveiled the model yesterday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The model has a 6.0-litre engine with a 12-cylinder TDI system, giving it 1,000 Nm of torque.

The car has an “effortless delivery” of a 4.2-second 0-62 mph acceleration, reaching a top speed of more than 186 mph.

In addition, the concept has a built-in satellite navigation system which gives the drive race circuit information.

“Fresh from ripping up the Le Mans racing rulebook with the diesel-powered R10 TDI, Audi is exploring the possibility of breaking yet another mould with a road-going TDI super car based on the R8,” commented the company.

Audi was formed in 1910 in Zwickau in Germany by August Horch.

Its headquarters can be found in Ingolstadt, where it also has a production site.
