Maintenance, servicing, tax, tyres and MOT
Items included in the Smart Lease maintenance agreement include:
- Routine scheduled services as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Replacement tyres, including for punctures.
- Replacement of wear and tear items including wipers, bulbs, batteries, exhausts and brakes.
- MOT test if required.
Items not included in a maintenance agreement:
- Damage of any kind due to misuse or an accident (see the insurance section for what’s included in the event of an accident).
- Damage due to misfuelling.
- AdBlue fuel additive.
- Any items outside fair wear and tear guide.
You can have your car collected and returned by the service garage for repairs and servicing. To book, call 0344 472 1081 and press 3 for vehicle maintenance.
We recommend you use us for all servicing and repairs to avoid any additional charges if the work exceeds the quoted cost, or a repair isn’t of adequate quality.
The service intervals for your car are in the driver's manual or service book, or else you can check the manufacturer's website.
If you've put the wrong fuel in your car, call 0344 472 1081 and press 2 for breakdown. Otherwise, you can call your own breakdown service provider to arrange recovery.
Look in the driver's manual and check the manufacturer's recommendations for dashboard warning lights.
If the manual says your car’s safe to drive, then arrange for the warning light to be checked as soon as it’s convenient. Call 0344 472 1081 and press 3 for vehicle maintenance.
If the manual says your car isn’t safe to drive and it needs immediate attention, then you'll need to get your vehicle recovered. Call 0344 472 1081 and press 3 for breakdown and recovery.
If the fault is an emergency and you can’t drive your car, you'll need to arrange recovery. Call 0344 472 1081 and press 3 for breakdown and recovery.
If your car’s still safe to drive, you'll need to arrange for it to be inspected and repaired. Call 0344 472 1081 and press 3 to book.

Yes, the Smart Lease package includes the cost of repair or replacement of any tyre on the car which becomes unusable by reason of fair wear and tear or accidental damage.
Your tyres should be replaced when the tread depth is 2mm. A tyre will also need to be replaced if it's damaged or you’ve been advised it needs to be due to safety reasons by a competent tyre fitter.
To arrange a replacement, call 0344 472 1081 and press 2 for tyres. The team will check the availability within your area for your car's tyres and arrange a fitting appointment for you.
Yes, you can fit accessories or winter tyres provided they don't cause permanent damage.
All MOT costs are included in your monthly Smart Lease price.
Depending on the length of your Smart Lease, you shouldn’t need to worry about the MOT at all as the first MOT for a personal car is due 3 years from the date of registration.
If the current MOT expires before the collection date, your Smart Lease car will need an MOT test so the collection agent can pick it up. You can get an MOT up to a month before it expires. Call 0344 472 1081 to arrange the MOT.

No. The vehicle tax will be automatically renewed but you won't receive a notification. You can visit the DVLA vehicle enquiry page and enter the registration number. This’ll show the expiry date for the tax and MOT. If the DVLA website says the vehicle isn’t taxed call 0344 472 1081 and they'll check this out for you.
